The book titled The Courage to Act – A Memoir of a Crisis and Its Aftermath authored by Ben S. Bernanke was released in the first week of October 2015. The author throug3h the book has questioned the inflation targeting policy followed by Federal Reserve even during the recession and in turn has proposed the adoption Nominal Gross Domestic Product (NGDP) policy to better deal with recessions like 2008 Financial Crisis. The Courage to Act recounts and explains the worst financial crisis and economic slump in America since the Great Depression, providing an insider’s account of the policy response.
Hoesung Lee, a Korean professor of economics of climate change, energy and sustainable development, was on 6 October 2015 elected as the Head of the Inter-governm4ental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) at its 42nd session in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Lee was elected by 78-56 votes in a run-off with Jean-Pascale van Ypersele of Belgium. A total of six candidates had been nominated for the post. He succeeded RK Pachauri of India, who stepped down in February 2015 after a female researcher accused him of sexual harassment. Lee has served various roles including his role as an executive member of the Korean Academy of Environmental Sciences; as a member of the Asia Development Bank President’s advisory board; as a council member of the Global Green Growth Institute and as an editorial board member of the UK based Climate Policy. He was the founding president of the Korea Energy Economic Institute and the former president of the International Association for Energy Economics. He also served Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in various capacities, including his post of the Working Group III Co-Chair.

(1) Important dates:

a. Age (as on 01/10/2015): Between 21 and 30 years
b. Educational Qualification : A minimum of 60% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/PWD) or an equivalent grade in Bachelor’s degree as well as in 12th and 10th standard examinations
(3) Number of attempts: Candidates belonging to unreserved i.e. General Category, who had already appeared Six times for Phase-I Examination for this post in the past, are not eligible to apply. No such restriction applies to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD, if the posts are reserved for them.
(4) Scheme of Selection:
Selection will be through Examinations and Interview. Examinations will be held in two phases [Phase-I ON-LINE Examination (Objective Type) and Phase-II ON-LINE Examinations - Paper II is Descriptive and Paper I and III are Objective]
(A) Phase-I ON-LINE Examination (Objective Type):
Duration - 120 Minutes
Max Marks - 200
The objective paper comprises of i) General Awareness ii) English Language iii) Quantitative Aptitude and iv) Reasoning.
Cut off marks : Candidates have to secure minimum marks separately for each test as well as aggregate.Candidates, who secure minimum marks separately for each Test will be shortlisted for Phase-II of the Examination based on the aggregate marks obtained in the Objective Test.
(II) Phase-II ON-LINE Examination - Paper II is Descriptive and Paper I and III are Objective] :
Paper pattern : Three Papers - 300 marks
Paper-I – Economic and Social Issues - 1½ hours - 100 marks
Paper-II – English ( writing skills) – 1½ hours – 100 marks (Descriptive, to be typed with the help of the keyboard)
Paper-III - Optional Paper (Finance & Management/ Economics/ Statistics) – 1½ hours - 100 marks
In Paper-III, candidates have to choose one of the three subjects at the time of online application.
(5) Final Selection : Final selection will be through merit lists which will be prepared by adding marks secured by candidates in Phase-II (Paper-I + Paper-II + Paper-III) and Interview.
(6) Application fee : Rs850 for Gen/OBC and RS100 for others.

Acharya Dev Vrat sworn-in as Governor of Himachal Pradesh
Acharya Dev Vrat was sworn-in as the Governor of the Himachal Pradesh on 12 August 2015 at the Raj Bhawan in Shimla. He is 27th Governor of 1this hill state. Chief Justice of state High Court, Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir administered him the oath of office and secrecy. He replaced Kalyan Singh, who was given the additional charge of Himachal Pradesh Governor on 28 January 2015 after Urmila Singh completed her term as Governor in the state on 25 January 2015. Acharya Dev Vrat (55), a noted educationist, took his oath in Sanskrit language. Before being made the governor, he was the Principal of Gurukul University Kurukshetra, Haryana.
Jayant Patel appointed as acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court
Justice Jayant Patel was on 12 August 2015 appointed as acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court. Justice Patel has replaced Justice VM Sahai who retired as acting chief justice on superannuation. Justice Patel (59), who hails from Veraval town in Junagadh district, graduated in commerce and law from MS University2. He started practicing law in 1979. During his three-decade career as advocate, he had appeared for Union government, Railways and Income Tax department. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court in 2001 and confirmed as a permanent judge in 2004.
India & World Bank signed agreement of US$ 308.40 Million for NCRMP-II
Union Government and World Bank on 11 August 2015 signed 308.40 million US dollar credit agreement in support of the second phase of the National5 Cyclone Risk Mitigation Program (NCRMP-II). The agreement was also signed by the state Governments of Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and West Bengal. The agreement was signed by Raj Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of the Union Government and John Blomquist, Program Leader and Acting Country Director in India, on behalf of the World Bank. The Project Agreements in respect of the States of Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and West Bengal were signed by the representatives of the respective State Governments.
Navneet Rajan Wasan appointed as DG of Police Research & Development Bureau
Senior IPS officer Navneet Rajan Wasan was on 7 May 2015 appointed as (DG) of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). He will serve the post till 30 November 2015, the date of his superannuation. The post of Director General (DG) of Bureau of Police Research and Development had been lying vacant since March 2015 following the retirement of Rajan Gupta. Presently, Wasan is working as Special Director General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He is a 1980-batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
 SBI launched RuPay Platinum Debit Card in association with NPCI
State Bank of India on 7 May 2015 launched State Bank RuPay Platinum debit card in association with National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). Pahal Scheme acknowledged by Guinness Book of World Records as largest cash transfer program
Union Government’s ambitious Pratyaksha Hastaantarit Laabh (PAHAL) scheme was on 13 August 2015 acknowledged as the world’s largest cash tran5sfer program (households) by the Guinness Book of World Records. The scheme was formally launched as Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme for LPG subsidy in 2013 in 291 districts under the aegis of Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The scheme was modified and named as Pahal in November 2014 and was then again launched in 54 districts. Later it was extended nationwide on 1 January 2015.
About Pratyaksha Hastaantarit Laabh (PAHAL) scheme
• The scheme aims at reducing eliminating duplication or bogus LPG connections and its diversion. It also seeks to meet substantive savings in LPG subsidy.
• Under the scheme, subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders are sold at market rates and consumers are entitled to receive LPG subsidy directly into their bank accounts.
• It is done either through bank account or Aadhaar linkage.
• Currently it covers more than 9.75 crore LPG consumers across the country.
3. Indian Railways signed 4 MoUs with Union Ministries of Power and New & Renewable Energy
The Indian Railways on 12 August 2015 signed four Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with Union Ministry 3of Power and Union Ministry of New & Renewable Energy for Cooperation in areas of electricity transmission, energy conservation and promotion of renewable Energy in a time bound manner.
Sania Mirza became second Tennis player to be recommended for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna
Sania Mirza, currently ranked world number one in women's doubles, on 11 August 2015 became only the second tennis play4er to be recommended for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. The first tennis player to be named for the top award was Leander Paes. He was bestowed the honour way back in 1996 after his bronze medal in the Atlanta Olympics. Sports Minister Sarbanada Sonowal on 1 August 2015 recommended Sania's name for the highest honour that is given for achievement in sports. But, her name for the award was finally approved by the Sports Ministry-constituted awards committee headed by Justice VK Bali, the retired Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. The committee included eminent athletes such as Dola Banerjee, MM Somayya and Bhogeshwar Baruah and sports journalists apart from top officials of the Sports Ministry. Sania won her career's first ever women's doubles Grand Slam title with Swiss partner Martina Hingis in June 2015. Earlier, Mirza has been conferred with other coveted awards like

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 August 2015 launched a new campaign Start-up India, Stand up India to promote bank financing for start-ups 3and offer incentives to boost entrepreneurship and job creation. The campaign was launched during the celebrations of 69th Independence Day at Red Fort, Delhi. The initiative is aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship among the youth of India. As per the initiative, each of the 1.25 lakh bank branches should encourage at least one Dalit or tribal entrepreneur and at least one woman entrepreneur. Under this initiative, in addition to existing systems to facilitate start-ups, loans would also be given to help people. This initiative will give a new dimension to entrepreneurship and will help set up a network of start-ups in the country.
Other Announcements
• Union Agriculture Ministry will now be renamed as Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ministry with a view to take care of the farming community’s needs as well as the personal problems faced by them.
• The Prime Minister also announced to replace the current practice of interview-based selections for low-skilled government jobs with online merit based recruiting.
• Under the Skill India and Digital India initiative, government will now work to provide package of incentives to manufacturing units for generating jobs.
India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal on 16 August 2015 became the first Indian to win silver in the World Badminton Championship. She lost the women's singles s5ummit clash to Spain's Carolina Marin 16-21, 19-21 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Olympic bronze medallist Saina had reached the finals of the event on 15 August 2015 by defeating Indonesia's Lindaweni Fanetri. This was India's fifth medal at the World Championship. Following are the Indian medal winners at the World Badminton Championships which started in 1977. Legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to win a bronze at the 1983 edition.

On 7 August Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) commissioned a 500 MW thermal unit of NTPC’s 1Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station (STPS) in Vindhyanagar, Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. BHEL has successfully commissioned the seventh unit of 500 MW at Vindhyachal power station summing up to 3,500 MW the highest done by BHEL in power projects. For this project, BHEL had contributed in engineering, manufacture, design, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbines. It also had important role in installing generators and boilers, along with associated auxiliaries and electricals, controls & instrumentation (C&I) and electrostatic precipitators (ESPs). BHEL particularly makes sets of 500 MW rating class and has commissioned so far 76 sets in the country. The sets supplied by BHEL have better operating Heat rate that consumes less coal while producing per unit of power. It should be noted that BHEL has established higher rated unit and thermal sets with a high degree of indigenization. In current financial year (2015-16) it has commissioned power plants with a cumulative capacity of 2,480 MW.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on 17 August 2015 announced that Sanskrit will be introduced as a mandatory subject in all Government schools o4f the state. The announcement came while he was presiding over the meet of the Himachal Sanskrit Academy. He also directed the academy to complete the formalities to take over Tungesh Sanskrit College at Cheog, so that it could be run in a better way. Cheog is a village in Theog Tehsil in Shimla District of the state.
Few other directions given by the Chief Minister
• He urged the Academy members to continue with their activities and make earnest efforts to promote Sanskrit and said that there would not be any dearth of funds to the Academy from the State Government to run its affairs.
• He also asked them to prepare programmes and projects and to submit the same to the Union Government as there was no deficiency of funds for Sanskrit Colleges and Academies with them.
• He also directed to transfer the ownership of ‘Divya Jyoti’ monthly magazine to the Academy and approved publication of research journal (bi-annual) of the Academy jointly with HP University.
Aditi Chauhan, India’s international football goalkeeper, on 16 August 2015 became the country’s first woman to play English league football. She made her debu3t for the women’s team of the West Ham United in the opening game of the season against Coventry City. West Ham United Ladies Football Club is an English women's football club (FC) affiliated with West Ham United FC. They were formed in 1991 and play at Hornchurch Stadium, Upminster the home of Hornchurch FC. They are currently in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division.
The former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe on 19 August 2015 was elected as the sixth President of the International Association of Athletics Fe1derations (IAAF). The British Olympian was elected as the President at the 50th IAAF Congress in Beijing, China. Coe will take office on 31 August 2015 after the end of the 2015 IAAF World Championships of Beijing. He succeeds Senegalese Lamine Diack, 82, who has led the IAAF for 16 years. The 58-year-old Briton defeated his rival Sergey Bubka, a former Olympic pole vault champion, by 115 votes to 92.
Sebastian Coe
• He is a British politician and former track and field athlete.
• As a middle-distance runner, Coe won four Olympic medals, including the 1500 metres gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1980 and 1984.
• He set eight outdoor and three indoor world records in middle-distance track events – including, in 1979, setting three world records in the space of 41 days – and the world record he set in the 800 metres in 1981 remained unbroken until 1997.
• Post retirement, he became the Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party from 1992 to 1997, and became a Life Peer on 16 May 2000.
International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is the international governing body for the sport of athletics. It was founded on 17 July 1912 at its first congress in Stockholm, Sweden by representatives from 17 national athletics federations as the International Amateur Athletics Federation. Since October 1993, it has been headquartered in Monaco.

Former Cabinet secretary Ajit Kumar Seth was on 14 August 2015 appointed as the Chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). He was appointed f5or a period of three years or till he attains 65 years of age. Seth succeeded Atul Chaturvedi, who has completed his tenure. Prior to this appointment, Seth completed his extended tenure of four years at the Cabinet secretariat in June 2015. Seth is a 1974-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Moreover, two IAS officers Gauri Kumar and Anshuman Das were appointed as members in PESB for a period of three years or till they attain 65 years of age. Gauri Kumar, a 1979-batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer, succeeded KM Acharya, who has completed his tenure. While Das, former CMD of National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), succeeded Ashwani Kumar Datt.

• The Public Enterprises Selection Board is a high powered body constituted by Union Government's Resolution dated 3.3.1987.
• It was constituted with the objective of evolving a sound managerial policy for the Central Public Sector Enterprises and to advise Government on appointments to their top management posts.
• PESB is entrusted with selection and placement of the posts of chairman, managing director or chairman-cum-managing director and functional director in central public sector enterprises, among others.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on 17 August 2015 launched a flagship programme Grama Jyothi across the state. The scheme is aimed at com4prehensive development of rural areas allowing planning and execution of works by villages themselves. For the successful implementation of the scheme, the state government has decided to invest 25000 crore rupees to empower villages. The scheme will focus on improving the Human Development Index (HDI) by addressing core issues such as drinking water and sanitation, health and nutrition, education, infrastructure, natural resources management, agriculture, social security and poverty reduction. The Grama Jyothi programme aims to empower gram panchayats. The programme introduces a participatory approach in preparing village development plans involving the panchayats, self help groups, people and all interested in the holistic development of the village. Grama Jyothi programme will be a game-changer to inclusive and holistic development of backward villages of Telangana. The government will also incentivise villages that achieve 100 percent targets in the areas of sanitation, immunisation, nutrition, literacy and green cover.

Bangladesh Under-16 team on 18 August 2015 won their first-ever South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) under-16 title. In the title clash at the Sylhet Di3strict Stadium of Bangladesh, the hosts defeated defending champions India 4-2 in penalties. Bangladesh got the lead through Fahim Murshed when he found the net in the 46th minute. India equalised the score after the hour mark through Amay Morajkar's left-footer. The match went into penalties after both sides failed to score the second goal. In the shoot out, Bangladesh did not miss any of their penalties, while India failed to score its second and fourth helping the home side clinch the title for the first time. Earlier, Bangladesh had beaten India in the group stage as well.

The selection committee headed by former Indian hockey captain Zafar Iqbal on 18 August 2015 recommended the names of TPP Nair, SP Misra an2d Romeo James for 2015 Dhyan Chand award. Their names were shortlisted from the names of 60 applicants. TPP Nair, the former captain of the Indian volleyball team, led the Indian team which bagged a bronze medal in the 1958 Tokyo Asian Games and a silver medal in the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games. SP Misra is the former captain of Davis Cup and at present is the chairman of the All India Tennis Association Selection Committee (AITASC). Romeo James, the former goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team, represented the country in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where India finished fifth.
Dhyan Chand Award
Dhyan Chand award is India's highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games, given by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The award is named after the legendary Indian hockey player Dhyan Chand. The award was initiated in 2002 and carries a cash prize of 5 lakh rupees, a plaque and a scroll of honour. In 2014, the award was conferred on three individuals, namely Gurmail Singh (Hockey), KP Thakkar (Swimming-Diving) and Zeeshan Ali (Tennis).

The High Court of Punjab and Haryana, is a common institution for the States of Punjab, 

Haryana and the Union territory of Chandigarh. Located in the capital city of Chandigarh in the 

foot hills of Shivalik Range, it was designed by the famous French Architect Le Corbusier and 

thus boasts of being an architectural marvel. The Court Complex, due to it's architectural

TET(CTET/PSTET):
CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is conducted by the central government of India for the appointment of teachers in different subjects. The applicants who clear the written exam are called for the final interview round. It includes subjects from science, arts and commerce.  Student selection is based on the performance in the final interview round. CTET exam is conducted in mostly all major towns and cities of India. It is held once in a year. This test is conducted to check the ability of the teachers to deal with nuisances in classrooms. It is conducted usually on holidays. Posts are respectable with good packages and allowances. There are good retirement facilities too. It is one of the most secure jobs. The CTET exams are very tough, so candidates have to study hard to clear this exam. Now days, CTET is compulsory for the teachers to clear and also for the entry in the government section. Forms of CTET exams are available on the official web site of the exam board. It should be properly filled up in details by the applicant and attached with attested copies of all academic qualifications along with exam fees. This exam is conducted twice in the year like in the month of May/June and November/ December/ January.
PATTERN/SYLLABUS:Test consists of two parts i.e. paper I and paper II. Paper I is compulsory for those who like to teach I to V and Paper II is for those candidates who want to like to teach VI to VIII. Time duration for both papers is one and half hours. It consists of 150 multiple type questions, each question carry one mark each. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Paper I is divided into 5parts: Child pedagogy, mathematics, environmental studies, language I and language II. These parts includes 30 multiple type questions and all questions are compulsory. Paper II is separated into 4 parts like hild pedagogy, language I , language II , mathematics and science/Social Science / Mathematics and Science OR Social Science .Child pedagogy , language I and language II are compulsory and carries 30 questions each ,while the sub-parts of the fourth part  carries 60 Questions each.
ELIGIBILITY(FOR CLASS 1 TO 5 - PRIMARY STAGE)

The students must have cleared senior secondary having at least 45 % and passed or he/she should be pursuing in the last year of two-year diploma in elementary education in accordance with the NCTE (recognition norms and procedure), Regulations, 2002
Or
Candidates should have cleared senior secondary with at least 50% and passed or pursuing in the final year of two-year diploma in elementary education
Or 
Senior secondary having at least 50 % and passed or he/she should be pursuing in the final 4year bachelors of elementary education
Or
He/she must be graduated and passed or appeared in final year of 2year diploma in elementary education
Or 
Senior secondary having 50 % and passed or he/she must be appearing in the last year of 2year diploma in education
